Problem statement:
SMMEs encounter challenges that affect their growth and development, including effective organisational structures, entrepreneurial viability and financial viability. Trading conditions are difficult, especially with the lack of services, and delayed payments in government contracts present a major cash-flow challenge to small businesses. These challenges often require quality business development services that empower them with the right information, skills and capacity to flourish. The SMME sector has been a significant contributor to the growth of the South African economy and creating sustainable market linkages is critical for new SMMEs.
Partner(s):
The Mondi Zimele Small Business Development Initiative is a programme started by Mondi Zimele and supported by the Jobs Fund to create jobs in the forestry and related business sector.
Intervention:
The Mondi Zimele Small Business Development Initiative aims to develop new emerging forestry and related agri-businesses. It will facilitate sustainable black economic empowerment by providing business support services and low-interest loans to emerging businesses in Mondi’s forestry value chain and surrounding communities.
Expected results:
New permanent jobs 2 700
New short-term jobs 2 700
Time-bound internships completed 6
Training completed 360
